Wish | Loewe Puzzle bag

I’m ready for a new bag…

Well actually, I’m ready for this bag in particular: the Puzzle from the Spanish luxury brand whose name I thankfully only had to write and not say out loud, Loewe. It would be the perfect everyday bag: big enough to carry all my things in and interesting enough to elevate my boring all-black ensembles. The bag comes in three sizes and in an array of colors – from black to soft pink. My mum will be happy because for once I’m forgoing the color black and will gladly settle for the Puzzle in tan.

Wish | Everything Lisa Folawiyo

On Friday, Leandra Medine suggested that all her readers started following the Nigerian designer Lisa Folawiyo on Instagram. Well well well, it looks like Leandra and I have something else in common beside our love of stripes because I started following @LisaFolawiyo yesterday and she is indeed a breath of fresh air. I fell in love with her own eclectic personal style. I also have to admit that her way as a designer of manipulating colour and Ankara (a West African fabric) is actually making question my love of all things black…

Happy New Year!!

This year, my resolution is to, wait for it… finally go back to the gym. I haven’t gone in over 2 months…. I lie and tell myself that it’s only been 3 weeks, but it’s been a while. Anyhow, we’re now January 8th and that since I got Habibi to renew my membership last week – I know I know, I couldn’t even bother going to renew it myself… But I finally found my way back… although, in all honesty, I haven’t actually gone back yet because I’ve been really busy. But my schedule finally cleared up so, as of next week, I’ll be going back to the gym.

All that to say that this resolution sent me into a total frenzy: I needed new sneakers. The ones I trained in 3 weeks – ahem, 2 months ago are still in good shape, but what can I say: new year, new gear. So I enlisted the help of my brother. Not that he has any particular skills when it comes to training – he doesn’t even go to the gym. No. My brother is just highly skilled at buying sneakers. He’s what the cool kids call a sneakerhead: the type of obsessive sneaker collector who sees no issue in buying the same pair of sneakers twice, but never ends up wearing one or the other; for whom size is nothing more than a number – as in a size 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5 or 11 will do – because he knows that some sneakers were only really meant to be admired, not to be worn; who will wait 5 years before wearing that pair of Foamposite he tracked all the way down at that Flight Club on Fairfax Avenue; and finally, who always has a spare pair of sneakers in the trunk – just in case they end up calling for rain later.

So anyways, we ended up at Foot Locker, staring at a wall of sneakers and he says to me: “Everyone has been raving about adidas’s new Boost technology. They’re not my jam but you should try them on”. They really didn’t look that special to me, but they were on sale so I added them to the pile of sneakers I planned on trying on: women’s Nike Free 5.0 and Free TR Flyknit; women’s adidas Boost, kid’s Kevin Durant 8 – I was really all over the place. And yet, the Boost won. And just like that a new obsession was born.

Great comfort and minimalist with a touch of nerdiness – what’s not to love?

Oh and if they seem to look familiar, it’s because they are. Remember these:

But now of course, I’m left waiting more. And by more, I mean the adidas NMD.

I don’t even know if they’re still available, if they come in women sizes – all I know is that I gave my brother a clear mission: FIND ME THESE SNEAKERS.

Oh, and by the way, I still have to find a new pair of sneakers for the gym, because, while my Boosts are no Yeezys, they are nevertheless way too cute to be worn solely at the gym.

Happy shopping!

Want | Cartel

As you all know, I’m a ballet flat kind of girl. Still,  I’m always on a quest – so many quests – to find the perfect pair of ankle boots. And believe me, I’m not using the word quest lightly: back in October, I spent days searching for a pair, only to realize that my skinny ankles and high-school teacher budget were making it really hard for me to find chaussure à mon pied as we say in French. There was the pair from Aldo which a friend of mine owns, “really comfortable, great price – you won’t be disappointed,” she assured me. They ended up looking ridiculous on me. There was also the one by Loeffler Randall which was per-fect. Except for its $475 price tag…

That being said, there’s a new player in town and that means that I can resume my quest. Cartel is a Montreal-based footwear company and if the numerous sold-outs models on its website are any indication, I’m not the only one to have fallen for their perfect mix of craftsmanship and style. Because really, how can any self-respecting shoe lover not be partial to a company whose commitment to quality is such that they only produce “in leathers, right down to the sole” ? I rest my case.

Here are my favorite models: Continue reading
