Today, I wore 2 of my favorite pieces:

Shirtdress - UNIQLO Sandals - Zara Shirtdress – UNIQLO
Sandals – Zara

Buying these sandals from Zara were a no-brainer: I’ve always had a love affair with minimalist sandals. As Shiona Turini puts it: “The shade of your very own skin never goes out of style.” And that’s why for me, minimalist sandals are the quintessential nude sandals – they elongates my legs and go with everything. And I always find my shade.

As for the shirtdress: I had been on a never-ending quest to find the perfect one when I saw this one at UNIQLO last year in New York. In the past, the ones I had either seen or bought were always belted, too short, too feminine, too pretty, in the wrong color, made out of the wrong fabric, etc. Basically, they were all wrong. And then, this one came into my life… much to the chagrin of my dear husband: “It looks like something I could have made in my grade 9 Home Economics class.” See, the husband and I have diverging ideas on what I should wear. While I fancy myself a 5’11” Russian model, which means that I’m often drawn to boxy, shapeless forms, he sees me as I truly am – a 5’1″ Haitian woman, which means that anything Beyoncé wears, he wants me wearing! Anyhow, I won that particular battle: the shirtdress was perfect – so I bought it. And to make him forget that I’m wearing a glorified potato sack – as he puts it – sometimes, I wear it with heels. And bam! all is forgiven.

This week’s weather forecast made me decide to give this whole OOTD another try. Now, bare with me: I might have figured out a better location to take pictures, but I didn’t get a new smartphone and Selfish is still not out.

Regardless, here’s what I wore today:

Shirt - Banana Republic Jeans - JCrew Sandals - Birkenstock Tote - Whole Food (!!)

It was 28 degrees Celsius, so the toes were out and the white jeans were back on!! I’m aware that I sound way too excited about my outfit, BUT I work in a high school. Toes and elbows are some of the only body parts that I can show worry free. Even if it’s 28 degrees outside.

P.S. Noticed the pile of stripped sweaters on my dresser? Operation Summer Uniform is in full effect.

Coachella…

Now that I fancy myself a fashion blogger, I realize that there are some events, fashion shows and openings that I really should be attending. Case in point: Coachella, last weekend. I know that it’s still going on this weekend, but I already have other plans…

That being said, since that festival is as much about the fashion as it is about the music, I figured I could still plan out what I’d be wearing if I were to attend it:

For Friday, I’m thinking Hunter boots à la Kate Moss circa Glastonbury 2005. Who cares if there’s a drought in California and therefore, a very slim chance of there being any mud? Fashion is never about practicality…

But after losing 10 pounds due to excessive sweating, I’ll probably go for comfort on Saturday, like Kate Bosworth on this picture.

As for Sunday, as you all know, I’m not one for color but when it’s presented in such a fabulous way, even I can’t resist!

And the hair! Now, that’s hippie chic done right.

Anyhow, here’s what I’ll most likely be wearing tomorrow, because unlike over in California, they’re calling for rain here in Montreal… joyful joyful.

Ne’er cast a clout till May be out…

Here in Montreal, the temperature has finally gone above 5 degrees Celsius. Which basically means that it’s summer, right? You don’t believe me? Ask that guy wearing shorts next to you on the subway or the new secretary at your office. Yes, the one wearing sandals – it’s finally summer.

As for me, what am I wearing? I”ve put away my Canada Goose and I’ve removed my socks, that’s it. I’m Haitian, I know heat –  it’s going to take more than 10 degrees Celcius to faze me…  I guess you’ll have to wait until June to see me parade in my new Balenciaga sandals.

But they’re worth the wait, trust me.

OOTD…

I’m a Virgo, which makes me an overzealous planner, which basically means that I spent hours researching the best way to start a blog, how to operate it, etc. Because of all this prep work, I had fooled myself into thinking that I was ready to start my own blog. Wrong.

The fashion part I have down: it took me less than 1 minute to put today’s outfit together – ok so maybe I picked it out yesterday evening… and never having to worry about color coordination probably helps a bit too… But aren’t those 2 of the 7 habits of highly effective people? Anyhow, it’s everything else that I’m struggling with: it took me 30 minutes,  2 smartphones and 1 change of location to stage the perfect picture shown below. Plus, I was almost late for work and now this outfit of the day post is slowing turning into an outfit of the evening one, since I’m only posting it at 3:15pm!!

P.S. Also, I really need to work on my selfie game – is that Kim Kardashian book out yet?
